Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs)

STCs are rebates available in Australia that can offset the initial cost of your solar hot water system or solar power system. An STC is a measure of renewable energy which can be traded for cash or a discount on the purchase price of a hot water system. Each STC represents a megawatt hour (MWh) per year of electricity displaced by an eligible system. For more information on STCs go to the Clean Energy Regular website.

Not only does this make it an even more affordable option, it also means your solarised hot water system can pay for itself even quicker.

STC Rebate Zones

Australia is divided into four zones based on how much renewable energy can be generated by a solar collector system in a given area. The map here indicates the zones.

Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst, Mudgee, Parkes, Forbes are all located within Zone 3.

We had our solar system installed at the end of May 2018 by LJW Solar. We had 5KW system consisting of 18 panels and a Fronius invertor installed. The three-man Australian team came in the morning, and it was finished by early afternoon. The job was very professional, neat and tidy, with no mess left behind. We generated 5.78MWH from June to December in 2018, and have already generated 2.3MWH in 2019. This is a total of more than 8MWH in just over 9 months. We are told this is an estimated saving in carbon emissions of 4.3 Tonnes, equivalent to 110 trees. Our average power bill used to be $350 per quarter after discounts, and for our last power bill at the end of Feb 2019, we have been given a credit of $220 after all power was paid for. So, we are very happy with the results, and hope it continues to work well into the future. Good for our pocket and good for the planet.

Recently we have partnered up with SolaMax to bring in a 50kW solar system with the potential to produce a daily average output of 262kW. This is a substantial saving of 75.33 tons per year CO2-e towards the essential preservation of our environment by the reduction of our greenhouse gas emissions.
